This Is Why The US Military Doesn’t Feel Threatened

With a budget of more than 768 billion dollars, the Department of Defense has a lot of money to spend on developing new weapons systems and vehicles.

So with a huge amount of money backing them, the US military has made some amazing vehicles. We've put just a few on this list that we think you'll like.

Beluga Airbus

Here's an enormous airliner called the Beluga, or the A300-600ST. It's a cargo plane on steroids and can load up a whopping 54 tons!

Soldiers affectionately called the military plane the Beluga and anyone can see why. It's absolutely enormous and with how tall it is it does look kind of like a whale.

AAV7

US Marine Corp. / CC

The AAV7 stands for amphibious assault vehicle. What's so special about this thing is its ability to not only tread land easily but bodies of water too! It only needs 3 soldiers to drive and can carry an additional 25 for transport.

The vehicle moves at a steady top speed of 30 miles per hour on land and 20 miles per hour on a body of water. It is also equipped with a small arsenal. Most notably a 25mm cannon and 40mm grenade launcher.

Autonomous Terramax

US Military / CC

Here's a futuristic vehicle that can drive itself. It's called the Oshkosh Autonomous Terramax. The purpose behind the strange concept is to keep soldiers safe from explosives and gunfire.

This monster looks awesome without a doubt, but apparently, the military wants to upgrade it even more in the future. Even though it's quite effective as it currently is.

Black Knight Transformer

Now here's another vehicle that looks straight out of a sci-fi movie. It's called the Black Knight Transformer because it can be a truck or a helicopter.

The vehicle can reach 10,000 feet in the air and drive at 70 miles an hour when on the ground. This thing isn't even the final design as it's always getting upgrades.

Humvee

U.S. Marine Corps / CC0

Now here's something as iconic as American pie. The American-made Humvee. This upgraded model has thick armor plates and a reliable 6.5-liter diesel engine.

Humvees were so iconic that they even made civilian versions - Hummers. They need no introduction either but unfortunately, they can't have the upgrades that the military models do.

CAMEL

US Army / CC0

They call this thing the CAMEL. It stands for Concept for Advanced Military Explosion Mitigating Land Vehicle. This thing looks like it could shrug off anything in its way.

This thing is an 8-wheeler, 8-wheel drive titan that was made by Detroit Arsenal to show off what they could do when they put their minds to it.

Now here's something that you don't see every day. It's called the m88A2 and has seen its fair share of deployments. It even got the privilege to destroy Saddam's statue.

Think your car has power? This leviathan boasts more than 1,000 horsepower and can reach 30 miles an hour even with over 30 tons worth of armor.

LSVR MKR15

US Military / CC

Remember the 8x8 CAMEL? Well the LVSR MKR15 had to compete and go one further. It has 10 wheels and all 10 of them get power. It's used in rescue missions and has seen a few deployments.

It needs all 10 wheels for the torque necessary to get stranded and stuck vehicles out of nasty situations. It's allowed to tow up to 96,000 pounds.

B-2 Spirit

U.S. Air Force / CC

And now, please, a standing ovation for one of the jewels in the crown of the US Army aircraft: the B-2 Spirit bomber. Its design makes it almost invisible to radar.

It's the most expensive and technologically advanced military aircraft today; one of these bad boys costs about $2 billion. When you look at its design, the theory that UFOs are actually highly secret military aircraft trials starts making more sense.

M1117

US Military / CC

This right here is the M1117. It's a tank that suggests a twist to how these vehicles are usually designed. Usually, speed isn't the most critical question. How much power the engine uses up is usually higher in the list of priorities to consider.

However, speed is the main feature of the M1117; it can drive at a speed of 70 miles per hour, which is about double what tanks can usually do; usually, the top speed limit of a tank is 25 to 45 miles per hour.

Cougar

This is the Cougar MRAP. It's a mine-resistant, ambush-protected earth vehicle designed to resist everything and anything. It comes with a C-7 diesel engine carrying 350 horsepower.

It can resist rocket-launched grenade fire and is equipped with an automated grenade launcher. Because if you stay ready, you don't have to get ready.

Super Guppy

Wikimedia Commons / Public Domain

This humongous plane is called the Super Guppy. It was the first aircraft to be produced by Aero Spacelines. It was designed to carry really heavy cargo.

It was designed before the Beluga, which we have already covered. The Beluga represented an upgrade from the Super Guppy, but there are still some of them in service.

LAV-25

US Military / CC

Now, this right here is the LAV-25. LAV stands for Light Armored Vehicle. Thanks to its 275 power engine, it can travel 62 miles per hour. On land, that is; because this vehicle is also amphibious. It comes with an M242 25 mm chain gun and an M240 7.62 mm machine gun.

Now brace yourself for one of the most impressive military vehicles ever. This one looks like something out of a Sci-Fi movie.

Sea Shadow

Wikimedia Commons / Public Domain

This is the Sea Shadow (IX-529). It was an experimental stealth ship built in 1984, that is, in the midst of the Cold War. However, it wouldn't be revealed to the public until 1993.

It was designed to be undetectable to radar, and it looks like something aliens would build. It appeared on the James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies.
