Never Do That Again
We were on a third-grade field trip to Roanoke. We had just learned about the lost colony of Roanoke and were heading down a path to a historical recreation site. There was a tree that had “Croatoan” carved into it.
If you are familiar with the story of the lost colony of Roanoke, it makes sense that the people putting on the re-enactment would put it there. Well, I was a little ahead of the group and passed the tree first. That’s when the dumbest thing happened.
One of my teachers called ahead to me and asked why I had done it. Like, she actually believed I carved it into the tree. There was a look on her face of annoyance, but also of hope that I had actually learned that detail from her. She took me aside and told me to not do that again. Story credit: Reddit / vivazeta
