Taking A Break
Ellis had been on patrol for four hours when he decided a break was in order. He was permitted a 45-minute break for lunch and decided to use it to cool down a bit as well. A diner at a local gas station proved to be the perfect refuge.
Sitting down, Ellis ordered a large glass of ice water instead of his usual coffee. As he glanced out the window, the curbs were shimmering with heat. Conditions were dreadful and Ellis hoped for a quiet shift. Instead, his day changed in an instant.
