While excavating to build a new metro line in 2017 beneath Rome, one of the oldest major cities, a range of interesting discoveries were made. Remarkably, the ruins of a luxurious third-century home, destroyed in a fire, were unearthed. Moreover, in the ashes, a 1,800-year-old skeleton of a crouched dog, likely perished in the fire, was found. The remains of the dwelling were exceptionally well-preserved due to the ash, thought to belong to an aristocrat from Celian Hill.
