Roman Coins Found in Japanese Ruins
At a castle in Okinawa, Japan called Katsuren, a strange discovery was made: the ruins held many Roman and Ottoman coins. Ten of these coins were uncovered by a researcher named Toshio Tsukamoto from Ganoji. Though the excavation of Kasturen started in 2013, the coins were discovered in 2016. Chinese ceramics and coins were also recovered, due to trades with China. This discovery has puzzles archeologists, as they wonder how Roman and Ottoman coins ended up in a southern Japanese castle.
