$4 Million Chunk of Quartz, Arkansas
At the Smithsonian Museum, you’ll find an incredible eight-thousand-pound lump of quartz, known as the Berns Quartz. This extraordinary stone was discovered in 2016 in a mine in Arkansas and now makes up part of the National Gem and Minerals Collection at the museum. Rare clusters such as this one have a value in the millions, due to forming in the Ouachita Mountains millions of years ago.
