Madeline was aware that taking Starlight to the vet would result in her information being run through the system. If she had gone missing from somewhere, the authorities would show up looking for her. Suzy would no longer have her new best friend.
The thought of it made Madeline feel guilty. She couldn’t take Starlight away from her daughter. Suzy would never be able to forgive her. Madeline sighed loudly as she shut her eyes and dialed the vet’s office.
