Amy Colbert, an Alabama resident, used self-checkout to pay for a few groceries at her local Walmart store. She thought she had followed the correct steps in paying for her groceries and scanning the items correctly, but as she was about to leave, the self-checkout machine froze.
She was withheld and accused of shoplifting just as she was leaving. The store’s employees had her arrested despite her explanation that she had paid and that the machine had frozen. They were completely unaware of the grave error they were making.
