These older stones may not have the same brilliance as modern diamonds, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t beautiful; you simply have to shift your viewpoint to see it. This makes no logic, since reducing a diamond’s value by cutting would be counterproductive. In any case, people weren’t concerned with glitz and glamour back in the olden days.
Wyndham said, “The older stones have quite a bit of personality,” referring to diamonds that were cut and manufactured in the 19th century. They shine with a distinct kind of brilliance. It’s incredible to believe that a superficial design choice masked the diamond’s actual worth all this time. In the past, the size and craftsmanship of a diamond were more highly valued than its actual brilliance. Greater size is preferable.
