Not Seeing Emily Today
His ex-wife normally saw Emily at least twice a day when she was walking the dog. The divorce couple lived in the same neighborhood and saw each other frequently. But that day she had not seen her daughter once and she got suspicious. There was probably nothing going on but she still decided to go and ring the doorbell.
