In July 2013, Brooklyn Nets general manager Billy King mortgaged the team’s future by trading four first-round picks to the Boston Celtics for the still-breathing Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett; the team is still recovering, and has a long way to go. One of those picks became Jaylen Brown, the third overall pick from 2016, and another switched hands once more before becoming the No. 1 overall pick in 2017, Markelle Fultz. The Nets’ 2018 first-rounder was sent to the Cleveland Cavaliers as part of the Kyrie Irving trade.
