The city has been associated with the brewing industry since the 1850s — there were already more than two dozen breweries in Milwaukee by 1856. Thirteen years before that, pioneer James Buck counted one tavern in the city for every 40 residents. And while those with a fondness for beer may love to fight, their dulled senses dull the damage they can do as well.
