Joe figured that phoning his dad, Austin, might help him figure out what was wrong. He told Austin about the text Mari had sent and how perplexed he was. His dad sighed, and there was tension in his voice as he started talking.
“Your mom has always been protective of you, son, and at times, she acts without thinking things through,” Austin said cautiously. “Maybe you should just let her calm down and then try to have a conversation again.”
